In the East, the soul is often compared
to a bird. It is said to be "caged' in the body and reluctant to leave the familiarity and safety of the
earthly residence. This worldly attachment is one of the primary causes of rebirth.
"Attachment to bodily
residence, springing up of its own nature, is present in slight degree even in great souls." Patanjali 42:5
